Theme : Emerging IT trends in Banking

Prescience stands for ‘foresight’ and it was true to its name in all respects, providing the audience valuable inputs on the IT scenario in the banking domain.

  • The event was presided over by our founder director Padmashri S. B Majumdar, M S Raste vice Chancellor SIU, Mr Kiran Laturkar (Director SICSR), Mr. Ashish Shah ( Deputy Director) and was followed by Mr. Majumdar’s enlightening speech on “the importance of IT”, which became a perfect launchpad for the speakers to come and speak their mind on the wonderful platform given by Symbiosis Institute of Computer studies & Research.

  • The first session commenced with Mr. Ajay Banerjee(GM, Bank of Maharashtra), who talked about challenges involved in implementation of core banking systems, like the data cleaning, risk management, interpersonal issues and customization of the software.

  • Change management and its importance were also dealt with. The session was concluded with the discussion on the necessity of communication and creation of an entrepreneurial environment.

  • The second part of the first session was taken over by Mr. T. D Sankaran( Chief Information security officer, Syndicate Bank) whose presentation was on ‘Brick to Click Banking’ where he candidly spoke about the evolution and uniqueness of Indian banking industry. The current and future trends like RTGS, voice recognition, Retina, thumb recognition and smart cards along with their advantages and limitations were discussed.

  • The second session started off with Mr. Harish Shetty (Senior vice president, HDFC bank) speaking about how alignment of IT strategy was done with the business strategies of HDFC Bank. The strategies were discussed in detail which then led to the key learnings in the process.

  • The next speaker Mr. Deepak T.R (Vice president HDFC bank) shed light on the issues surrounding “ Modern Banking- Challenges and Strategies” . The discussion was about business intelligence and how it can be used effectively and efficiently in the banking industry.

  • The post tea session started with Mr. Mahesh Sharma ( Assistant GM, SBI) talking about “ Risk management and Financial products” where he dealt with the various risks and their mitigation mechanisms . Various financial products like accounts, cards, investments etc offered by SBI were also discussed upon.

  • The last speaker of the evening , Mr. Ravi Krishnamurty(Country head, Business operations , SBI life) spoke on “ Technology trends in banking and insurance industry”. Here he gave details about the customer needs and the future challenges in the banking industry.

  • All the sessions were highly interactive and the students got a clear and deep insight into the intricacies, the best IT practices & their alignment with the business processes of the leading Indian Banking Institutions.
