ARSH,NEN - 'Dabbawalas - An Insight into the amazing story....
| | 2007-07-03,10:00:00,Symbiosis Vishwabhawan Auditorium | ARSH, the e-cell of the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) at Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR) carried out the first of the series of SUCCESS STORIES, ‘THE DABAWALAS’ on 3rd August 2007, at the Symbiosis Vishwabhavan, here at Pune.
- In recognition of the stupendous service provided by the Dabbawalas of Mumbai, the e-cell under the aegis of NEN commemorated their feat. Representing the Dabbawala fraternity were Mr. Raghunath Medge (President, NMTBSA*) and Mr. Gangaram Talekar (General Secy, NMTBSA).
- Addressing the gathering, Mr. Medge emphasized on keeping the system simple and effective. He talked about the extent of physical hard work that is prevalent in the system, relating it to the inherited knowledge from their ancestors. He also elaborated on the color coding for the ‘dabba’s’ that act as the only source of identification.
- Mr. Talekar in his talk, paid rich tributes to the founders of the Association and livened up the atmosphere with his witty comments. He presented to the students the basic functioning and the policies of the organization. ‘The average educational qualification of a dabbawala, he remarked, was an Eighth class pass.

- Speaking on behalf of NEN, Mr. Vinod Shastri (Consultant) urged the students to learn from the experiences of the dabbawalas, the art of time management and the sheer perseverance of carrying a venture forward. “Time is now, Choice is yours… We are here to help….”he said.

In response to a question from the audience about security threats posed to the dabbawalas, Mr. Medge said, they were men of integrity and believed in providing complete service to the customer with utmost sincerity and dedication.
- Calling them “The true professionals of the highest order….” Mr. Kiran Laturkar, Director, SICSR, impressed upon the students the importance of team work in order to achieve such an accurate system without the support of technology. He also shared with the students his personal experiences of the services he availed of the dabbawalas.
